Sweet Floral Birthday Card…

Hello, Stampers!!!

 

As you all read this I sincerely hope you are all safe, dry and with electrical power. We survived here in Westchester County, but not without flooded basements, flooded roads, the falling of larger trees and no power. Everything is almost back to normal. My prayers go out to all of you who have suffered, lost homes or even family or friends.

 

I also cannot believe Labor Day Weekend is upon us. Where did summer go??? While we”ll still get some warm days, the weather here has been a bit crisp with some pretty cool nights.

 

I want to share with you a card I made with a favorite Stampin’ Up! background stamp called “Sweet Floral.” This stamp image, of what I believe is a Helleborus Niger Flower, is so BIG and bold it stands on it’s own. Originally I wanted to use the 1-1/4″ Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, but found it to compete too much with the image, even playing around with it in several spots. Ultimately this is what I came up with.

Sweet Floral Torn Paper Card

Card Stock Sizes to cut:

Cherry Cobbler    10″ x 7″ scored at 5″ (card base)

4-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ (torn layer)

Crumb Cake             4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″

4″ x 6″ (torn piece for stamped image)

 

 

Ink up the Sweet Florals Torn Layer Cherry Cobbler Ink  by placing the stamp on your work table with the image side up. Blot the stamp pad over the stamp image and take the  4″ x 6″ Crumb Cake card stock and carefully place it over the inked stamp. With your Bone Folder rub over the card stock and when your done lift up the card stock. Once dry, tear around the Sweet Floral image by holding your index finger and thump over the image edge, as a guide, and with your other hand start tearing until the whole image is done. Around the edges sponge on Soft Suede Ink to give it a distressed appearance.

 

Torn Edge Cherry Cobbler Layer

 

Tear the 4-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ piece of Cherry Cobbler all around the edge. Once done sponge the edges with a Sponge Dauber and Cherry Cobbler Ink.

 

 

On the 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ piece of Crumb Cake stamp the leaf image from the Paisley Petals stamp set in Soft Suede Ink. Once the stamping is complete take another Sponge Dauber distress the edges in Soft Suede as well.

Adding all the distressed edges and stamped images helps give your cards another dimension. It also works as a Designer Series Paper would for effect.

 

As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to use the 1-1/4″ Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, but I decided to go with the Crumb Cake Seam Binding, A two looped bow didn’t cut it, so I added two more loops and I think that worked much better without competing with the image.  On a scrap piece of Crumb Cake stamp the Happy Birthday greeting for the Petite Pairs stamp set in Garden Green Ink. and ponch it out with the Large Tag Punch. Sponge the edges in Cherry Cobbler Ink. On a piece of Garden Green card stock, punch out an Extra-Large Tag and layer the two together. Insert an Eyelet through the two layers and thread through a piece of Crumb Cake Seam Binding and wrap it around the center of the bow.

Word WIndow & Three Brads Detail
To assemnle card layer the torn piece of Cherry Cobbler on the Crumb Cake. On a piece of Garden Green card stock punch out a Word Window. Attach it as shown in the photo and place three Cherry Cobbler Brads on the Word WIndow punched out piece. Now take the stamped image layer and adhere it on top of bothe the Cherry Cobbler and  Crumb Cake. Adhere these to the Cherry Cobbler card base. Then place the bow and message as shown using a Glue Dot.
