Butterfly Basics: Sympathy Card

Butterfly Basics Header

Sympathy cards are never easy to make. I find myself trying to reflect two  people; the person I’m sending it to and the lost loved one(s) A handmade sympathy card is a very personal way to express your love and support to a loved one at a difficult time. You want to choose your card stock, colors and message with care. You need to make sure that your message  says the right thing, as a sympathy card is sent to someone at a painful time in their life. There’s often little time to create a sympathy card.   However, the power of loving words and a prompt handmade card can mean so much.  Today’s card is simple but delivers a caring message. More importantly it was made with love.

I love these Stampin’ Up! cutout lattice cards, which sadly are now retired. I try to save them for that very special card. The lattice-work on this card allows the Smokey Slate Cardstock (or any other color) to show through while adding another dimension and layer.

The center was stamped using the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set and the sentiment is from a favorite of mine called Perfect Pairs. The small butterfly is from the Papillon Potpourri set. They were all stamped in Smokey Slate Ink.

For the flowers I simply pulled out my watercolor pencils and colored them in. I blended the colors dry, not adding water to them, because the Smokey Slate Ink isn’t permanent and would have bled. There is however, a gray permanent ink in the new Holiday Catalog. I not saying anything more.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to hug those you love.

Embrace the day and make something that makes you happy.
