One Horse Open Sleigh Ride Ornament

Sleigh Ride Ornament Header

It was recently asked at our dinner table, “What the difference between a sled and a sleigh is?” I knew the answer, but in case you’re wondering or asked the same question, here’s the answer.

open_sleigh_ridesleigh –  a carriage  using runners, instead of wheels, to user on snow/ice. Sleighs are much larger than sleds. They usually have open tops, seats for multiple passengers and must be pulled by animals, such as horses or reindeer!

sled – a small single person conveyance to slide down hills, usually has runners, but may just have a flat bottom.

This Sleigh Ride Ornament is perfect to make to add to your Christmas Tree or send out to your family and friends. These would also make festive place-cards for everyone sharing your Christmas/Holiday dinner. Just one more way to use the Sleigh Ride Edgelits.

Traditional Christmas colors were used for this Sleigh Ride Ornament, Real Red, Whisper White and Garden Green. For a wintry or holiday feel, use whites and blues which would work as well. Silver Foil Paper was used for the ornament topper.

The Real Red Card Stock was run through the Big Shot using the festive Delicate Ornaments Thinlits. So, easy and you can cut these out quickly. The framelits come with two different basic ornament shapes and either one will work.

The Garden Green Card Stock wan first cut with the Sleigh Ride Tree Edgelit Die then the Delicate Ornaments. Make sure the you place the cut piece about halfway up the ornament die and the trees are to the left. This way they’ll show through when you place the sleigh ride layer down.

The process was repeated with the Whisper White Card Stock using the sleigh edgelit die and only placing this cut layer a third of the way up the ornament die.

All the layers were adhered together as shown and highlighted with a White Gel Pen. You could use a VersMark Pen and add Dazzling Diamonds as well. I used a White Gel Pen to draw the very simple snowflakes.

Then a ornament topper from Silver Foil Paper was cut and  a hanger and a bow using the Silver Cording Trim was tied and strung through the topper.

And, in case you’ve forgotten the words here’s Dashing Through the Snow or better known  Jingle Bells!
