Hello there and welcome back!
This card was made at my, “Everything Winged” Workshop along with three other projects. In keeping with the name of the workshop all project themes had to do with birds and butterflies. The Stampin’ Up! Swallowtail stamp was perfect for the idea I had for this particular card. The Swallowtail can be stamped in any color choice. For this card I wanted to do a vintage, collage look. The workshop attendees thought these projects were fun and different, especially the peacock project I’ll be featuring next week.
Here’s the “How to:”
CARDSTOCK & SIZES:
Very Vanilla 4-14″x 8″ scored at 4-3/8″ (card base) and 2″ x 5/8″ (inside sentiment)
Elegant Eggplant 4-5/8″x 4-1/2″ (card back) and 2-1/4″ x 7/8″
INKING UP:
Ink up the Swallowtail stamp in Perfect Plum and stamp it along the front flap of the Very Vanilla card base, making sure you line up the edge of the Swallowtail to the edge of the flap. Only a partial image will fit.
Ink up the floral image from the Butterfly Basics in Baked Brown Sugar (soon to retire) 🙁 and stamp it on the inside of card where shown in the photo.
On a scrap of Whisper White, ink up and stamp the sentiment, “Live with an open heart” in Garden Green. Stamp the “Happy Birthday” sentiment on to the 2″ x 5/8″ piece of Very Vanilla.
Distress the edges of the front of the card and the indie with Baked Brown Sugar and a Sponge Dauber.
FINISHING TOUCHES:
Closely trim around the Swallowtail’s wing, leaving a little border. Cut along right side of the wing only. I made another card cutting out the whole wing, which looked good as well.
Pierce two holes on the card base; one in the middle of the crease and one at the middle of the Swallowtail, close to where the top part of the wing and the bottom meet.
Cut about a 16″ piece of purple and white Baker’s Twine. Starting on the front, thread the twine through the hole on the wing, bringing it to the inside of the card. Make sure to leave a tail. Next, thread the twine through the other hole bringing the twine to the back.
Wrap the twine across the back and secure it with a few dabs of All Purpose Glue on the back.
Layer and adhere the “Happy Birthday” sentiment on to the 2-1/4″ x 7/8″ piece of Elegant Eggplant. Then affix it to the inside as shown.
Cut out the “Live with an open heart” and adhere it to the front of the card.
Layer the Very Vanilla Swallowtail card on to the 4-5/8″ x 4-1/2″ Elegant Eggplant base, making sure the twine comes out in between the layers.
Tie the Baker’s Twine into a pretty bow and trim. My bow isn’t tied in the photo. Opps!
