Poppy Parade is a 2010-11 Stampin’ Up! In-Color and will be for two years. I was inspired to make this pinafore dress card by the color. Along with Poppy Parade, I also used a New Color- “Marina Mist.” The two colors together reminds me of the fifties when this shade of blue and red seemed to be popular. Here is the card I made and how I did it. It wasn’t planned but, “How fitting is it that it’s Red, White and Blue?”
To begin I made a simple dress and pinafore outline to use as a template. Here is the simple outline drawing I did, just click on the image and print. I know it’s a bit dark but it works.
1. I began with a piece of 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ Marina Mist Card Stock scored at 4-1/2″.
2. On the Marina Mist I stamped the cherry image from the Tart & Tangy Stamp Set, using Marina Mist Ink
3. On a piece of Poppy Parade Card Stock I traced the dress template, cut it out and ran it through my Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. For the neckline I used a 1″ Circle Punch and punched out half a circle. I sponged Riding Hood Red Ink with a Dauber along the edge of the dress.
4. I traced the pinafore template onto a piece of Whisper White Card Stock, cut it out and ran it through The Big Shot using the Petals-A-Plenty Embossing Folder. For the neckline I used a 1-1/4″ Circle Punch and punched out half of circle.
5. On a piece of Whisper White Card Stock I stamped the cherry image using Old Olive Ink for the leaves and stem and Poppy Parade for the cherries. On each cherry I used Crystal Effects to give them dimension and a shinny look. I used the 1-3/8″ Circle Punch to cut the cherry image out. On a piece of Poppy Parade I cut out a scallop circle with the Scallop Circle Punch and layered the two as shown.
6. I adhered the pinafore onto the dress and used two Red Brads on each strap of the pinafore.
7. Then I wrapped a piece of the new 1/8″ Marina Mist Taffeta Ribbon around, brought it up through the scallop circle and finished it off with a bow. To bring the ribbon through the scallop circle I punched two small ribbon slits with a retired Stampin’ Up! Punch. You could use a 1/8″ circle punch also.
Here is a close up of the cherry image:
8. I layered the card together as shown using Dimensionals on the back of the dress. I left a greeting off because I felt it worked better without one on the front of the card. You could stamp a message on the inside.
I like the look and feel of this card and have another idea for this dress card which I am working on and will post as soon as I finish designing it.
Happy 4th of July and thanks for stopping by.
