Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge #236

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in the Operation Write Home sketch challenge and this week I decided to play! Of course I picked one of my busiest week, but hey, after all, this is a challenge! Here’s what I came up wit for sketch #236.

Flower Patch OWH 1

For this card I used the Stampon’ Up! Flower Patch stamp set, which has matching dies! What could be easier or more fun? I know the sketch shows a 2-1/2″ circle, but I used the largest flower from the stamp set, which just happens to be 2-1/2″. I lucked out.  I started with a Strawberry Slush card base.  See the sketch for all the card dimensions.

Flower Patch OWH Deatil

The background layers are from the Stampin’ Up!’s Park Lane Designer Series Paper. I chose the Old Olive floral print and colored in one flower with my Inktense Ink Pencils. I tried one with the new Blendabilities, but the designer series paper didn’t give me enough variation between the dark and the light shades I was aiming for. I added a scallop edge using the scallop edge punch.

I added a perfect greeting, from the same stamp set, in the new 2014 in-color, Mossy Meadow.

Every 2nd and 4th Saturday, Operation Write Home has a sketch challenge. This is the last one in the series, but the will begin with sketch #1, on Saturday, August 24. Now is a good time to jump to participate in the challenges. Here’s the link to this weeks challenge:

So join in the fun and play along!

Oh, Happy Day Card

Oh Happy Day HeaderThis Oh, Happy Day card can be sent for birthday’s, anniversaries, graduations or any special day. This card is from my Operation Write Home card-making event.

Oh happy Day OWH

This card portrays, “HAPPY” because of the Strawberry Slush color. The largest starburst image was used from the Starburst Sayings Stamp Set. For the card base, half of 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of Whisper White Card Stock was used and scored at 4-1/4″.   A 3″ x 3″ square of Designer Series Paper was cut and layered on the Whisper White card base. The starburst image was stamped in Strawberry Slush Ink and then cut on the BIG Shot using the Starburst Framllits. So cool, easy and perfect! The two banners were cut using the BIG Shot again with the Apothecary Labels Die.

A quick “HAPPY” card! Now make a few in several colors. Check back at the end of the month for a, “Telescope Card” using this Starburst stamp Set.

Sending Happy Hugs your way,

This is the Operation Write Home Birthday Card we made at my event on Sunday.  It’s a pretty straight forward card with no real surprises. Sorry about the color in the photo. I had trouble correcting the color and the cards are boxed up to send to Operation Write Home.

Operation Write Home Event

images-11I’ve been doing classes and workshops for a long time and I have to tell you my Operation Write Home Event yesterday was one of the nicest and most memorable. Twelve ladies gave up their Sunday afternoon to come out in the cold to make cards for our troops in Afghanistan. It was truly heart-warming. This week I’ll feature photos of the cards and of the event.

The ladies of the day. (I’m the short one!)

End Product

These are the thank you gifts I made for all the ladies,

only due to my short term memory I forgot to hand them out!

These are flower pots filled with a packet of forget-me-not seeds.

Every time they looked at their forget-me-nots, they would remember our troops.

Too bad I didn’t forget-me-not!

Forget me not gifts

Thanks for stopping by. Check back this week for the OWH project details.
