Big Shot: A, B, C Sampler

To all you wonderful ladies who attended my “Open House.” thank you. The day really helped me to focus on how truly wonderful family and friends are. The day kept my mind off of Monday and more dreaded oral surgery! So again thank you!

Besides fun and food, we did manage to do a nice project and catalog tour. I was so surprised and thrilled that not a one of you did any whining about having to cut. For those of you unable to attend the Open House here’s the project everyone did.

Alphabet Sampler

This A, B, C Sampler was inspired my a counted cross stitch I did. I must say this paper version went a lot faster then the original cross stitch one.

Mini Quiche Pan Filled With Cut Letters 1

I began this sampler by cutting the alphabet out, using the Big Shot and the Timeless Type Alphabet Die Set. This is a great project to use up all that scrap card stock you have. The picture to the right shows the cut letters in a compartmented tray that mini quiches came in. Next time you buy those frozen mini quiches save the tray they come in.

Then I stamped the following images in the colors indicated on a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock. Once they were all stamped and colored I cut  each image out.

%22A%22 is for Acorn

A   Acorns from Autumn Splendor in Cajun Craze

B    Bee from Nature’s Walk in More Mustard

C    Cherries from the new stamp set Cherish Friendship in Soft Suede %22C%22 is for Cherry

E    Egg from Easter Blessings in the new In-Color Wisteria Wonder

G    Goose from the new Cherish Friendship in Early Espresso Ink (I know this stamp is probably a duck, but I colored it in like a goose)

H    Heart using the Big Shot and Scalloped Heart Embosslit and Blushing Bride Card Stock

K    Key from Artistic Etchings in Versa Mark and Gold Embossing Powder

L    Leaf from Fabulous Florets in Old Olive Ink %22N%22 is for Nest

N    Nest from Nature’s Walk in Chocolate Chip Ink

O    Owl from Forest Friends in Creamy Caramel Ink (retired)

Other Owl from Inch by Inch in Soft Suede Ink

P     Pigeon from a demonstrator incentive set, Cute & Classic  in Basic Grey Ink %22O%22 is for Owl

R    Rooster from Rustic Rooster in Cajun Craze Ink

S    Shell from Nature’s Nest in Creamy Caramel Ink

T    Tree from Forest Friends in Old Olive and Chocolate Chip Markers

U    Umbrella from Bloomin’ with Happiness (retired) in Old Olive Ink

W    Wheel Barrel from Countryside in Basic Grey Ink

%22R%22 is for Rooster

%22T%22 is for Tree

Once you have your alphabet and images cut, play around with the arrangement. Here are some samples of what the class did.

Stamping on Canvas: Mixed Media Part 2

Today’s feature is Stamping on Canvas: Mixed Media Part 2

Mixed Media Avian Toile

Stamped Avian Toile on Canvas
Here’s a picture of some stamped images and rub ons. The Avian Toile Block Stamp (retired) still didn’t print up enough, even with the wood block underneath the canvas. Normally for these mixed media pieces, I don’t mind partial images, but this was really the feature and the bird hardly stood out.

Stamped Avian Toile on Tissue Paper

So, what I decided to do is to stamp the Avian Toile Stamp on white tissue paper with Stazon Black Ink and it worked like a charm. I used a decoupaged medium to adhere the stamped tissue image to the canvas. You can also use watered down white glue such as Tombow Multi Purpose.

Stamped & Colored Avain Toille Detail
This photo shows a detailed image of the bird. I used various Ink Refills as watercolors. Once the inks dried, I then added Gold Smooch to highlight the bird

Stencil on Canvas

I then took one of my Stampin’ Up! Decor Stencils and dabbed on some Regal Rose Ink.

Stencil Detail on Canvas

Here’s a detailed view of the stencil.

Rub-Ons on Canvas
Then, I added Stampin’ Up! Rub-Ons for some extra layers. Don worry if only partial images rub off, it adds to the dimension and blending effect if some are ragged edged.

White Rub Ons Detail
More rub-ons.

The whole purpose of this canvas piece is to use a variety of inks, paints, rub-ons, stamps and textures. You want lots of layers. You need to be careful that you don’t make gray, by mixing too many colors. I try to go with two or three colors and a white to really pop certain areas. Sit down over the weekend and see what you can come up with. If you live in the Westchester, Putnam County, New York areas I’ll be offering classes in this technique. Look for class details in my newsletter.

Send Me what you’ve created. I would love to see it!

Stamping on Canvas: Mixed Media Part 1

Hello to all of you!

I’m so excited to share this project with you. I took a class in mixed media and have wanted to do a canvas of this kind for a long time. Everything I used is Stampin’ Up! except for some acrylic paints and textured fabric to use as a stencil. Oh and of course the canvas I used isn’t Stampin’ Up! I’m experimenting with this mixed media technique on water-color paper as well.

Mixed Media Avian Toile

Here’s a step by step tutorial with accompanying photos Today’s feature is Mixed Media Part 1. Tune in on Thursday for Stamping on Canvas: Mixed Media Part 2

Mixed Media Supplies

To start this project you’ll need to a canvas, mine is 6″ x 12″, acrylic paints, Stampin’ Up! Ink Refills and brushes. First you need to give the canvas a good coat of white paint.

Piece of Textured Fabric

Once the white paint is dry, take any textured fabric, ribbon, bubble wrap, burlap or any other material with texture. I chose  Punchinella, a scrap piece I had. Punchinella is what’s left over after they punch out sequins. I used the Punchinella as a stencil. I laid it on the canvas and with acrylic paint I painted right over the surface of the Punchinella. You can also use your Stampin’ Up! Ink Refills for this by squirting some drops onto a palette, dipping a brush into the puddle of ink and painting with it.

Acrylic Paint Results over Textured Fabric

Here is the acrylic paint result after painting right over the Punchinella.

Daffodil Delight Ink from Refill

Along the bottom of the canvas, I used some Daffodil Delight Ink. I didn’t paint it on. I stood my brush perpendicular to the canvas and dabbed the Daffodil Delight along the bottom of the canvas, for a more random look.

Wood Support for Back of Canvas

Since the canvas is stretched over a wooden frame, there’s little support in the middle of the canvas. While the support is good enough for brush strokes, I soon found out there wasn’t enough support to stamp on. I asked my husband if he could cut me a wood block support to place underneath to stamp on and support the canvas. It fits perfectly in between the canvas frame.

Inking up Block Stamp with a Marker
. I then proceeded to ink up the Filigree Block Stamp with a Concord Crush Marker.  Make sure to huff on the stamp before stamping. The moisture from your mouth helps keep the ink wet.

Stamped Image on Canvas

I stamped it up in the right hand upper corner.

Stamped Tile Coasters…

I love this project and so did all who attended my Gift Making Class. These are very easy and inexpensive  to make as gifts and those who receive them will treasure them always.

DSC_0308

Here’s how to Stamp a Tile

::

You’ll first need to go to a local home improvement store and look for un-glazed tiles.

When you get them home rinse them with soap and water and dry.

Choose a stamp that fits nicely on the size tile you chose and stamp the image with Stazon Ink. Let the image dry. Once it’s dry I colored the image with Stampin’ Up! pastels.

Along the edges I just used my finger and smudged the color along the edge of the tile. To insure the color will stay on I sprayed each tile lightly with a clear matte finishing spray.

These are so simple to make you’ll be able to make a set for everyone on your gift list!

Bird Frame

Bird in a Tiny Frame…

 DSC_0449Th

is is the last project we made at Friday’s class. I tried for a more vintage look on this small framed bird wall hanging. It’s a simple fun process and no two came out the same in the class.

DSC_0448

After measuring the frame’s opening and adding 1/4″ on all four sides, I cut a 2-1/2′ x 3-1/2″ piece of Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper and proceeded to stamp it with motifs from the Friends 24-7, Rustic Rooster and Priceless Stamp Sets in Baja Breeze and Basic Black Ink. I stamped randomly until I felt the look of the layered images was acceptable without being too busy or over powering.

I then stamped the bird from Friends 24-7 Stamp Set in Soft Suede, on Very Vanilla Card Stock, colored in the bird and cut the stamped image out. I adhered the bird with dimensionals so it would pop out of the opening.

Here is a close-up of the result.DSC_0450

Once the stamping was done I cut another 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ piece of Soft Suede Card Stock for the backing. I placed a small plastic loop onto a piece of Baja Breeze Ribbon (retired). Then I adhered the bird image on the back of the frame so that the image showed through the opening. On the back of the image piece, I adhered the ribbon then on top of that the piece of Soft Suede Card Stock

I’m pleased with the result and I have my tiny framed bird hanging in my kitchen. The moral of this story is keep your eyes open for small inexpensive frames so, you too can create one of these for your very own.

I’d love to hear from you. Leave me a comment because I would love to know where you are reading from. Let me know what kinds of cards and projects you love and would like to see in the future. Your feedback is important to me. I’m still waiting for your submissions so I can post your hand made card and projects using Stampin’ Up! products. I hope I inspired you, because that is my intention.

Make it a great day and thanks for visiting!

HUGS & stamps,

Butterfly Wreath…

DSC_0403
This butterfly  wreath turned out to one of the classes favorite projects. I sometimes look to do other projects besides cards. While everyone loves to do cards it’s nice to have a “Home Decor” project that you can use in your home or as a gift for someone. Who wouldn’t love this hanging in their home or to receive it as a present? I got the grapevine wreaths at a local craft store.

DSC_0402

This was quite simple to make with the help of the Big Shot and Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die and  the Butterfly Punch. Shelli wasn’t kidding when she named this one! The butterflies are magnificent cut out of Stampin’ Up! Designer Paper. Any paper you use works beautifully with this die. We used a variety of papers at the class. Once butterflies were cut, selected and layered they were adhered using Glue Dots. With the Sweetheart Stem Embosslits Die I cut some Old Olive Card Stock and inserted the leaves where needed. I tied a hanger and made a bow out of Regal Rose Grosgrain Ribbon and voila a beautiful butterfly wreath just in time for Easter and Spring.

I hope you take time out to make some of these Butterfly Wreaths

Thanks for looking!

Circle Circus Topiary & Bird…

This is the project we made at my, “Open House” on Friday. I used five of the new In-Colors to create a topiary, flower pot and a bird. I had these frames from some discount store and  decided to create the project to fit the frame. Originally I wanted to paint the frames white but, after seeing the finished piece in the dark frame I thought it looked good. The frame works well with the Rich Razzleberry Card Stock and the gold frame detail ties in with the Crushed Curry Card Stock. I made a template for the flower pot and you can print it out in whatever size you might need.

DSC_0027

This is the  flower pot template:

DSC_0031

And here are the pieces cut out of Melon Mambo Card Stock and Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper:

DSC_0026

I did use the Scallop Edge Punch on one edge of the trim.

This is an enlargement of the flower pot. I adhered the Razzleberry Designer Series Paper onto Melon Mambo because there wasn’t enough contrast when I held it over the Whisper White background.

DSC_0029

The rest of this framed topiary was layered with, Whisper White, Melon Mambo, and Crushed Curry Card Stock, A piece of Rich Razzleberry Ribbon was used as a base for the topiary. The frame itself measured 7″ x 14″.  The leaves were cut using The Big Shot “Little Leaves” Sizzlet Die. The bird image from, Cheep Talk, was stamped in Bermuda Bay.

Thanks for lookin’!
