flourishing-phrases-headerThis card was so much fun to make. The colors make me happy just looking at them. Jar of Cheer : Christmas Candle

Mason jars and jars in general are such a big trend right now. They’re inexpensive and can be used for so many things. Once only used for homemade jams and granola’s or such.  They’re now filled with ingredients to make cookies or breads, to hold small gifts, filled with miniatures to resemble snow globes and the list goes on and on. The Jar of Cheer on this card was stamped with a candle, making this mason jar a candle holder!

This card may sound complicated to cut and layer together, but if you make all the cuts and think about how they have to be adhered together you’ll have no problem. It’s quite a beautiful card and you should save the cutting dimensions to use in the future with other holiday or birthday cards.

Bright Hopes: Double Z-Fold Card…

I love folded cards. With a few score lines and folds a card seems to be magically transformed. Here’s a Double Z-Fold Card we made at one of my workshops. The hardest measurements were foe the belly band that goes around the card. The band needed to be slightly larger then what I thought it had to be, but after several tries I figured it out. You can take this technqiue and again make it your own, by your color and stamp image choices. The trick here is to have fun and stand back and Ooh and Ahh over it when you’re done.

Bright Hopes Z-Fold Card

To make this impressive looking card do the following:

Double Z-Fold Card

1.    Cut a 12″ x 4″ piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock and score it at 2″ 4″ 8″ and 10″. See diagram.

2.    Fold from the 4″ score line in and from the 2″ score line out. Then fold from the 8″ line in and the 10″ line out.

3.    Cut two 1-3/4″ x 3-3/4″ pieces of Very Vanilla card stock for the side panels.

4.    To layer on the Very Vanilla, cut two 1-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ of Holly Berry Blossom Designer Series Paper.

5. For the belly band cut an 8-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ strip of Cherry Cobbler card stock. Score the band at 2-1/8″x 6-1/8″. Take it from me the 1/8 of an inch matters!

6.    For the front diamond cut a 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla and stamp the wreath from the Bright Hopes stamp set with VersaMark, sprinkle it with Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder and heat it with a Heat Tool.

7.    Cut a 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Wild Wasabi to mat the Very Vanilla stamped image.

8.    For the inside middle panel cut  a 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla.

When you’re all done this is what you should have:

Before taping the belly band with SNAIL Adhesive, wrap it around the card first, then tape it. Place the diamond (square) shape on with a Dimensional. Place  Basic Rhinestones around and in the middle of the wreath motif.

I’m so glad you decided to stop by today.

Vintage Birthday Card: for Nancy…

Vintage Birthday Card Flower Detail

Today is my girlfriend Nancy’s birthday. I decided to make a vintage Birthday Card for Nancy. I didn’t want any stamped image as the feature. The features on this card are the flowers and folds. See if you don’t agree?

Vintage Birthday Card

I saw this Center Step Card Technique and I knew I had to use it.

Center Step Card

I started with a 5-1/2″ x 11″ piece of Rich Razzleberry card stock and lined the 11″ edge up at the 1″ mark on my paper trimmer. Position your cutting blade at 1″ from the edge and cut down to 6-1/2″. Flip the card and repeat. Make sure you start from the same end of the card stock for both cuts. I messed this up, not once, but twice!!!!

I then scored the card stock, beginning with at the 1″ cut line,  I scored the card stock at 1″ across, 2″ to the cut line and 6-1/2″ all across. Flip and score only at 2″ to the cut line. At 5-1/2″ score between the cut lines.

I punched the flowers out of Daffodil Delight, Orchid Opulence (retired) and Rich Razzleberry card stock with the Scalllop Circle Punch and the Trio Flower Punch. All the small flowers were wrinkled and this flower technique was done for the large flower. The large flower was edged with Rich Razzleberry Ink.

For the side panels I cut two 3/4″ x 4-1/2″ of Very Vanilla and randomly stamped the leaf image for the Nature Walk stamp set in

Vintage Birthday Card Detail

For the bottom panel I cut a 5-1/2″ x 1″ piece of Very Vanilla and with the leaf stamp and Always Artichoke I stamped this piece. I wrapped a piece of Very Vanilla Seam Binding and added a pretty bow to the Very Vanilla card sotck.

For the center panel I cut a Scallop Oval out of the Newsprint Designer Series Paper and distressed the edges with Rose Red Ink. For the Happy Birthday greeting I first stamped the rose frame from the Four Frames stamp set and in the center I stamped the birthday greeting in Rich Razzleberry Ink I punched the frame out with the Decorative Label Punch, For the mat I punched two more  Vintage Birthday Card FrontDecorative Labels out of Always Artichoke card stock. I cut one of these labels in half vertically and the other in half horizontally. I adhered the parts with a border showing all around.

The scallop oval was placed down on to the center panel and on the oval I arranged the flowers as shown. In the center of each flower I placed a Basic Pearl  varying the sizes. The Happy Birthday greeting, was adhered at an angle.

Happy, Happy Birthday Nancy!
