A Victorian Ornament for Elaine…

On Sunday my girlfriend Elaine had a group of longtime friends over for a get together and lunch. I organized a small stamping project for the ladies to make and all of them loved it. Some were new to stamping, so, it was nice to get more ladies interested. In January I’m doing a private class for them and I can’t wait!

Of course when you go to someones home you can’t go empty handed. I know how hard Elaine worked on making Sunday special. I’ve know Elaine for just about 20 years and didn’t know what to bring her. I finally decided on this Victorian Ornament, because that’s how Elaine decorates her Christmas Tree. Here are some photos of the ornament. I’ll be offering the directions for this and the other ornament I made at a later date.

Etched Snowflake Jar…

Hello, Lakeside Stampers and Crafters!

In my Friday Night Gift Making Class we had a great time, if I do say so myself, making gifts to give for Christmas. One gift we made was an etched glass plate which can be used for cookies and such. The class had the option of what kind of a design they wanted to etch on their plates. I’ll post dome photos of these in another post. Today’s post I choose to show you how to etch a glass jar which can be used for candy or hot chocolate mix. These jars can be hand-washed and should stay very nice for many years to come, because, the glass is actually etched.

DSC_0169

First, you need to hand punch an image from a Stampin’ Up! Adhesive Sheets (120805) found in the Holiday Mini Catalog. I chose the Snowflake Punch (119852) for this particular jar. Save the positive piece for future use and the negative piece DSC_0167 with the opening, peel and stick it onto the glass. It’s quite sticky so try to place it where it’s going to stay. Along the edges pat down making sure it’s stuck well.

Now, while I’m an all exclusive Stampin’ Up! blog, I do have to send you to your local craft store to purchase etching cream. All the crafts stores carry it. Once you have it you’ll want to work by an opened window and sink.

Sponge or brush on the cream on the inside opening of the cutout image. Take care not to pull up any of the Adhesive Sheet or cream will get underneath the design and your image will not look like your image at all. I know becasue when I first did this, while my snowflake looked like a snowflake, some of the detail was lost. I use a wooden chop-stick to apply the cream and I pat it on rather then sponge or brush it.

DSC_0263 When the cream has been on for about 5 minutes, put on a pair of gloves, rinse off the cream and peel off the Adhesive Sheet. The image won’t show up as much when the glass is wet so don’t fret. Once dried your image will be beautifully etched in the glass. I do have to warn you this is addicting and you’ll want to etch more and more. I know I do.

I was and so was my house, covered in Dazzling Diamonds and after you get done making this you’ll understand why. These photos are a bit washed out looking and as soon as I can swap them out I will. Silver Snowflakes…

Hi, One and All!

I don’t know about you, but, I LOVE The Big Shot Embossing Folders. The embossed areas are clear and very detailed. For this card I used the new Northern Flurry Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I know that’s quite a mouthful of a name, but, it does so much. The snowflakes seem to dance across the paper. The folder also coordinates with Stampin’ Up!’s Northern Hearts Hostess Stamp Set on page 4 of the Holiday Mini Catalog.

DSC_0140

Here’s how to make this “Dazzling” Silver Snowflake Card:

1)    Cut a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ piece of Real Red Card Stock and score it at 4-1/2″

2)    Cut another piece of Real Red at 2-5/8″ x 2″.

3)    Cut a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Brushed Silver Card Stock and run it through The Big Shot with the DSC_0141 Northern Flurry Embossing Folder.

4)    Cut a  2-1/2″ x 1-3/4″ piece of the Brushed Silver Card Stock and on it stamp “Joy” from the Christmas Collage Stamp in Real Red Ink.

5)    Layer the card as shown wrapping a piece of Real Rad Satan Ribbon around and tying a bow.

6)    Place a Basic Rhinestone or two on the embossed snowflakes

Thanks once again for stopping by and don’t forget to make it a great day.

A Pocket “Merry Christmas” Card…

Hi there Lakeside Stampers!

I don’t know about where you live, but, here on the East Coast our weather got cold and chilly real fast this week. It scares me to think how very close the Holiday Season is upon us. Here is a very nice Vintage Christmas Card I wanted to share with you. Of course you can make it in any color combination, with any message, but, hopefully this will get you in the spirit to hand-make your holiday cards. It’s never too early…

DSC_0144

For this card this is what you do:

1)    Cut a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of Cherry Cobbler Card Stock and score it at 1-1/2″ x 5-1/2″.

2)    Cut  a 3″ x 4″ piece (for the top), a 4-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ piece (for the flap)  and a 3-3/4″ x 4-1/2″ piece  (for the card) of any any designer series paper. Mix and match the patterns. I used  Jolly Holiday Designer Series Paper. DSC_0145

3)    Cut three pieces of Very Vanilla Card Stock. Cut one 3-3/4″ x 5″. Cut another 2-3/4″ x 4″ piece and stamp the bell image from the Bells and Boughs Stamp Set in Cherry Cobbler Ink. Around the edges with the Distressing Kit and the tea stain, distress the edges. On the third 3-3/4″ x 2-1/2″ stamp the greeting, “Merry Christmas” from the Christmas Postcard Stamp Set also in Cherry Cobbler Ink.

4) Layer the card as shown folding down the flap and adding two Glitter Brads to each corner.

DSC_0146 5)    Finish off the card by tieing a beautiful bow with the Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon, which, by the way, makes great bows.

I love how Stampin’ Up!’s product line color coordinate so beautifully. If you want any of the product used in this card you can place an on-line order or email me at diane@lakesidestamper.com

Thanks for visiting and Happy Holiday Card-Making!

Catching Snowflakes Card…

Hello there Lakeside Readers!

This card was so much fun to make because it incorporated a little bit of stamping, embossing, coloring, cutting, tearing and distressing. I do love the way this card turned out and I had a good time designing it.

DSC_0136

Here’s what to do:

1)    Cut a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock and score it at 5-1/2″ With the Round Corner Punch round off each corner.

2)    Cut a 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece of Baja Breeze Card Stock and corner round the two bottom corners.

3)    On the Baja Breeze, ink the edges with a Dauber and Baja Breeze Ink. Then stamp the tree from the Season of Friendship Stamp Set in Soft Suede Ink, the bird from the same set in Real Red Ink and the snowflake in Versa Mark Ink. Sprinkle the snowflakes with White Embossing Powder and emboss with the Heat Tool.

4)    Cut a 2″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Whisper White Card Stock and tear it across the top edge to resemble a snow drift. Adhere this to the Baja Breeze and wrap it with a piece of Red Gingham Ribbon.

DSC_0137 5)    On a scrap piece of Whisper WHite Card Stock stamp the girl with the tree and wagon from the Greeting Card Kids Stamp Set in Basic Black Ink and cut her out

6)    Layer everything as shown adding Dimensionals behind the girl and Basic Rhinestones to the snowflakes. Don’t forget to add a rhinestone in the little girls hand. After all this card’s name is, “Catching Snowflakes!”

Thanks for visiting!

O Tannenbaum

This card was great fun to make although my class ladies didn’t think so. Once again, they moaned about all the cutting. So, I graciously helped those who wanted help cutting as I do love to cut. Don’t ask me why I just do. I find it relaxing because, you don’t really need to think about it. And you can talk while doing it and that’s a good thing.

DSC_0138

Here’s how to make this  card:

1.    First, simply draw a Christmas tree on a scrap piece of cardboard, cut it out and use it to trace on Stampin’ Up!’s Holly Jolly Designer Series Paper.

 2.    Cut a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Cherry Cobbler Card Stock and score it at 4-1/4″.

3.    Cut a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock. Punch each corner with the Ticket Corner Punch.

4.    Using whatever images from the Bingo Bits Stamp Set you want, stamp images on a scrap of  Very Vanilla and cut them out. I stamped the images shown in Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, Old Olive and Soft Suede Ink. Don’t forget the presents for under the tree!

5.    For the round ornaments I punch out  this piece of Jolly Holly Designer Series Paper with the  1/2″ Circle Punch.

DSC_0149

6.    Layer the Very Vanilla on the Cherry Cobbler

7.    Adhere the tree with Dimensionals.

8.    Adhere the ornaments with Glue Dots.

9.    Stick a Basic Rhinestone in each corner.

10.  Top off your tree with a pretty little bow made from Cherry Cobbler 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon.

As an Added treat enjoy this video with Nat King Cole singing, “O Tannenbaum.”

Scallop Bird Card…

Hi, Lakeside Stampers!

This is the last post from World Card Making Day. While we made ten cards in all, I have a lot more Holiday cards and projects I want to share with you in the coming weeks. I love the non-traditional colors of Christmas and the Holiday Season.  This card was made with some of the non-traditional colors such as Baja Breeze, Blushing Bride, along with the traditional Real Red and Garden Green. Leave it to Stampin’ Up! to use them together in their Candy Cane Christmas Designer Series Paper.

DSC_0129

To make this card here’s what to do:

1)    Cut a 6-1/4″ x 8-1/4″ piece of Whisper White Card Stock, scored at 4-1/4″ and scallop punch the foure edges with the Scallop Edge Punch.

2)    Place a piece of Real Red Card Stock in your Big Shot and with the Scallop Square Duo DIe cut a 3″ scallop square.

3)     Along the card front bottom edge stamp the greeting from the Stampin’ Up! Bright Christmas Stamp Set in Real Red Ink. I used the “Winter Wonderland” greeting because it’s curves match the curves in the tree branch.

4)    Take a piece of the Candy Cane Christmas Designer Series Paper and punch the bird with the Two-Step Bird Punch. Switch up the patterned paper for some interest.

5)    Layer everything as shown wrapping a Whisper White Satan Ribbon bow areound the Real Red scallop square. Use Dimensionals to adhere the bird and each corner of the scallop square place a Basic Pearl.

Now you’re done and you can make tons of these in many color variations for the holidays.

Thanks for visiting!
