Paper Quilt Block Card 2

This card a made from Dapper Denim, Calypso Coral and Whisper White. A slightly different version from Tuesday’s card.

Since orange and blue are Complementary Colors, they work well together or as the name suggests they compliment each other.  Complementary Colors are any two colors which are directly opposite each other.  Orange and Blue are complementary colors, so they produce a really striking effect. It depends on the shade of orange and blue. As you can see, a vibrant orange, such as Calypso Coral and a bright blue, like Dapper Denim, work really well together.

Try a few of these. I’m working on a larger version to use in a frame as a wall-hanging. I’ll post it as soon as I finish it.

Paper Quilt Block Card

Today’s share are a few Paper Quilt Block Cards and designs. I’m hoping to make some with the new Stampin’ Up! 2017-2019 In-Colors. So, stay tuned and check back.

This card was made using a quilt and shape dies I have. You can use any of your geometric shaped dies to create beautiful Paper Quilt Blocks. Mix up the designer Series Paper patterns as you would fabric. In quilt making you should try to go with a light, medium and dark colors/patterns that don’t compete, but compliment each other.

In the above card the light color is the Flirty Flamingo Design, the medium color is the blue and white and the dark color is the Dapper Denim border.  Die cut and punch out different shapes and play around with different colors and patterns. You’ll be surprised at how many variations you’ll achieve.

Come visit again on tomorrow for a slightly different variation.

Make what you love… and love what you make…

Work of Art: Watermelon Card

Watermelon Card Header 2I LOVE this Work of Art stamp set. I’ve seen it used in so many ways and each time it’s brillant and exciting to see. For this card I used it for a fun watermelon card and the anticipation of Summer! Who doesn’t like watermelon or Summer?

Watermelon Card wm

  1.  Cut an 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Watermelon Wonder and score it at 4-1/4″
  2.  Cut a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White and 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″
  3.  Cut a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Designer Series Paper

    1. On the smaller Whisper White piece, stamp the curve from the Work of Art stamp set in Strawberry Wonder Ink.
    2. Clean the stamp and stamp it along the bottom of the watermelon using Always Artichoke Ink.
    3. Stamp the heart stamp in Watermelon Wonder randomly all over the layer background.

  1. Punch out the smallest flower using the Blossom Bunch Flower Punch out of Basic Black card stock. Cut the flower petals up and use them for the watermelon seeds.
  2. Before adhering the card stock layers together tie a piece of Always Artichoke ribbon around the top layer. Tie a pretty bow as well.

These would be great to use for invitations to a Summer birthday party or Summer BBQ.

Lake what you love and love what you make!

Embrace the day,

Fancy Fold: Flourishing Phrases

flourishing-phrases-headerThis card was so much fun to make. The colors make me happy just looking at them. All the directions and cutting dimensions are listed below and I would jot them down in a book for future reference. In fact you should have a book with all the dimensions to all the cards and projects you make. Just a suggestion…

  1. Take a sheet of 8-1/2″ x 11″ and cut the 8-1/2″ side to 7-3/4″
  2. Score this side at 1-3/4″ and 6″
  3. Turn and cut at 5-1/2″
  4. Cut a  2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ scallop square using the Layering Squares Thinlits and the BIG Shot

  1. Cut two 1-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ (top and bottom flap)
  2. Cut a 3″ x 3″  scallop square using the Layering Squares Thinlits and the BIG Shot

  1. Cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece for the inside of the card
  2. Cut 2-1/2′ x 2-1/2″ scallop square using the Layering Squares Thinlits and the BIG Shot

  1.  Cut two 1-1/4″ x 5″ pieces (top and bottom flap)

  1. Stamp the large flower from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set, on the 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″  Whisper White scallop square in Dapper Denim Ink.
  2. Again in Dapper Denim Ink, stamp “Happy Birthday”  from the Stylized Birthday stamp on the inside Whisper White layer.

  1. Adhere all the layers as shown. Only place adhesive on the top part of the center Peekaboo Peach Square.
  2. Place a Basic Rhinestone in the center of the flower.

Keep these cutting dimensions safe somewhere, because I know you’ll want to make more of this Fancy Fold card!

Thanks for stopping by and Stamp On!

Stampin’ Up!: Botanical Blooms Birthday

This birthday card is oh so cheerful! Having the Botanical Blooms stamp set and the Botanical Builder Framelits makes this card a cinch to put together. Emerald Envy and Sweet Sugarplum work well with the Whisper White

Cut a base from Emerald Envy at 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 5-1/2″

From Whisper White cut a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece

Cut a 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ piece of Sweet Sugarplum

Using the Botanical Builder Framelits cut out one of the larger flower, the medium flower and the small flower out of Whisper White.

On a different scrap of Whisper White stamp the large leaf detail in Emerald Envy and the greeting. Leave enough room to cut them with the framelits and the Wide Oval Punch.

Cut a few flowers and flower parts from Sweet Sugarplum.

Adhere all the flowers and the greeting.

Wrap a piece of Emerald Envy Ribbon around the Sweet Sugarplum layer.

Adhere all the layers on to the card base.

I hope these colors inspired you. Thanks for stopping by!

Bunch of Blossoms: In a Jar of Love

Two great stampe sets were used here for this card; Bunch of Blossoms and Jar of Love. Both stamp sets are so versatile and can be used in many different ways,

Smokey Slate 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″

Whisper White 4″ x 5-1/4″ and 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″ plus a scrap piece for stamping flowers

Playful Palette DSP 3-1/2″ x 1″

Flirty Flamingo 3-3/4″ x 5″

Irresistibly Floral Specility Paper 5″ x 3″ for stamping jar

  • On the piece of Irresistibly Paper stamp the jar from the Jar of Love stamp set on Basic Gray Ink.
  • On the back pf the stamped jar take a Dauber and Pool Party Ink and sponge over the Irresistibly Paper to look like water in the jar. This paper has a white-on-white design that shows up when paper is inked.
  • On the scrap piece of Whisper White Card Stock stamp the flower from the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set. The Bunch of Blossoms Stamp Set and coordinating ` makes stamping and punching easy.  The Bunch of Blossoms stamp set is a fun two-step photopolymer set, which makes for quick and easy stamp placement.  The flowers were stamped in Calypso Coral and Blushing Bride, You’ll want to stamp three.
  •  The stems were stamped in Wild Wasabi right on the 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″ Whisper White piece of card stock. Placement is important, becasue you want to be able to have the stems coming out of the jar with enough room for the flower heads on top.
  • Stamp “Hello” in Calypso Coral Ink on a scrap of Whisper White and cut it out with a small label punch

  • With the Jar of Love Framelits and the Big Shot cut out the jar,
  • With the Builder Blossom Punch, punch out the three stamped flowers.

Adhere and layer everything as shown in the photo. Wrap a piece of blue and white Baker’s Twine on the front of the jar.

Check back often and I’ll see you then.

Embrace the day,

Stamping With A Stencil: Papillon Potpourri Heart

Papillon Potpourri Heart Header

I’m very excited to share today’s card with all of you. You always see my final works on the blog here. You never see the work and trials and tribulations that go on backstage so to say. Sometimes, I’m not too thrilled with what I design. Sometimes, I even think they’re not worth posting or writing about, but today’s card I have to say I love. I don’t love it, because I designed it. I love it, because it works. The colors work. The stamped butterflies work. The size of the heart works. It works because of the balance and the soft subtle color choices.

Papillon Potpourri Heart

I went with a square card, because I knew I wanted to use a heart shape. If you want to use another shape make you paper dimensions accordingly.

1. Tip Top Taupe 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″

2. Very Vanilla  5″ x 5″ and 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″

3. Mint Macron 4-3/4″ x 4-3/4″

Scrap of any cardstock 4-3/4″ c 4-5/4″  for stencil

1. Take the scrap 4-3/4″ x 4-3/4″ cardstock and with the Hearts Collections Framelits and the BIG Shot, cut out the largest heart. Save the cutout for another project. The negative space, where the heart was cut from is going to be your stencil.

Papillon Potpourri Heart Cutout

Papillon Potpourri Heart 2

1. Lay the cutout heart over the 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ piece of Very Vanilla. To hold it down and in place use a little of re~positional tape.

2. Stamp inside the heart directly onto the cardstock. Start with the flower from the Stampin’ Up! Best Thoughts stamp set. Ink up the flower with Soft Suede Ink and stamp so only a partial flower shows.

3. Now stamp another flower onto a scrap piece pf cardstock and cut it out. Put some re~positional tape on the back and use it as a mask for when you stamp your butterflies. This way the flower will read as a black and white flower in the foreground and the butterflies will appear to be in the background.

Papillon Potpourri Heart Detail 2

4. Proceed to stamp various butterflies from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set, using  Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron Inks.

5. With a Mint Macaron Marker dot in between the stamped butterflies; to add more to the background of the heart so it reads as a heart.

Try to stamp along the heart stencil’s edges as much as possible for the heart to read once you remove the stencil.

Papillon Poypourri Heart Corner detail

1. Adhere the card layers as shown in the photo.

2. Add 5 pearls to the two bottom corners. The pearls I used are not Stampin’ Up!, because I loved this color as an embellishment for this card. You can color the pearls with a sharpie marker. If you have a brown marker that would work well.

Give this card a try. Change out the butterflies with other stamped images. I know I’ll be playing with this some more!

Thanks for stopping by!

Embrace the day and make stamping a part of it,
