Stamping With A Stencil: Papillon Potpourri Heart

Papillon Potpourri Heart Header

I’m very excited to share today’s card with all of you. You always see my final works on the blog here. You never see the work and trials and tribulations that go on backstage so to say. Sometimes, I’m not too thrilled with what I design. Sometimes, I even think they’re not worth posting or writing about, but today’s card I have to say I love. I don’t love it, because I designed it. I love it, because it works. The colors work. The stamped butterflies work. The size of the heart works. It works because of the balance and the soft subtle color choices.

I went with a square card, because I knew I wanted to use a heart shape. If you want to use another shape make you paper dimensions accordingly.

CARDSTOCK & CUTTING DIMENSIONS:

1. Tip Top Taupe 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″

2. Very Vanilla  5″ x 5″ and 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″

3. Mint Macron 4-3/4″ x 4-3/4″

Scrap of any cardstock 4-3/4″ c 4-5/4″  for stencil

MAKING A STENCIL:

1. Take the scrap 4-3/4″ x 4-3/4″ cardstock and with the Hearts Collections Framelits and the BIG Shot, cut out the largest heart. Save the cutout for another project. The negative space, where the heart was cut from is going to be your stencil.

STAMPING:

1. Lay the cutout heart over the 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ piece of Very Vanilla. To hold it down and in place use a little of re~positional tape.

2. Stamp inside the heart directly onto the cardstock. Start with the flower from the Stampin’ Up! Best Thoughts stamp set. Ink up the flower with Soft Suede Ink and stamp so only a partial flower shows.

3. Now stamp another flower onto a scrap piece pf cardstock and cut it out. Put some re~positional tape on the back and use it as a mask for when you stamp your butterflies. This way the flower will read as a black and white flower in the foreground and the butterflies will appear to be in the background.

4. Proceed to stamp various butterflies from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set, using  Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron Inks.

5. With a Mint Macaron Marker dot in between the stamped butterflies; to add more to the background of the heart so it reads as a heart.

Try to stamp along the heart stencil’s edges as much as possible for the heart to read once you remove the stencil.

FINISHING TOUCH:

1. Adhere the card layers as shown in the photo.

2. Add 5 pearls to the two bottom corners. The pearls I used are not Stampin’ Up!, because I loved this color as an embellishment for this card. You can color the pearls with a sharpie marker. If you have a brown marker that would work well.

Give this card a try. Change out the butterflies with other stamped images. I know I’ll be playing with this some more!

Thanks for stopping by!

Embrace the day and make stamping a part of it,

Siggy-2
