Mouthwatering Melon Mambo Birthday Card

Hi, Stampers!

I’m hoping you’re weather is as great as it’s been here in New York! Temperatures have been in the 70’s and I can hear my gardens yelling, “Get us raked up!” They don’t have too much to complain about this winter and they really need little cleaning.

This card was inspired by the new Scented Embossing Powders that Stamppin’ Up! came out with. There are three scents to choose from, Cherry, Vanilla and Melon. I chose the Melon, because it reminded me of years ago when I grew watermelons going down the hill to the lake.  I also grew pumpkins, but that’s another card and post.

Stampin' Up! Mouthwatering, Lakeside Stamper Mouthwatering Birthday Card

To make this simple and clean looking card start withe the following layers:

Whisper White Card Stock 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 5-1/2″ plus a  4-1/2″ x 3-1/4″

Basic Black Card Stock 5″ x 3-3/4″

Melon Mambo Card Stock 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″

Berry Blossoms Designer Series Paper 4-1/2″ x 1″

On a scrap piece of Whisper White Card Stock I stamped the watermelon slice from the Stampin’ Up! Mouthwatering Stamp Set. I inked up the melon using an Always Artichoke Marker for the rind and, what else, but a Melon Mambo Marker for the melon.

Then I cut out the melon. Here’s a goo tip for you. The 2-1/2″ Circle Punch works beautifully with the bottom of the melon image! And, there’s more…For the melon pits I used the Blossom Bouquet Triple Punch. The teardrop shapes that we normally throw out is what I used. Make sure the punch button is all the way over to the right.

Once the melon slice was cut out, I inked it up on the front side by pushing the slice into my VersaMark pad. Now comes the fun part. I then sprinkled on the Melon Scented Embossing Powder.  Heaven I tell you. Once the melon slice cooled down, I added the pits with a tiny drop of Tombow Multipurpose Glue.

I stamped the bird from the Sweetheart Stamp Set in Basic Black and cut him out. Using the Basic Black Ink again, I stamped the, “Happy Birthday” message, from the Sweet Cake Stamp Set, just above where the wrapped ribbon was going.

The card was layered as shown using Dimensionals behind the melon. On the strip of Berry Blossoms Designer Series Paper I evenly spaced and added three Black Brads. After wrapping a piece of Scallop Dots Black Ribbon, I made a tailored bow for the finishing touch. HERE’S HOW TO MAKE A TAILORED BOW
