Butterfly Basics: Pop-Up Birthday Card

3=D Pop Up Card An open heart bird

I had so much fun designing this Pop-Up Birthday Card! It took a while to figure out placement of all the parts, but once figured out it went fast. The idea behind this card and be used for any occasion and size card.

Here’s the, “HOW TO”

CARDSTOCK & CUTTING DIMENSIONS:

So Saffron 5-1/2″ x 7″ score at 3-1/2″  and

1/2″ x 2″  score at 1/2″ from each end  (the tab)

Whisper White 5″ x 3″ (cut two)

Marina Mist 5-1/4″ x 3-1/4″

THE DETAILS:

On one of the Whisper White layers stamp the floral image from the Butterfly Basics stamp set. Stamp the image in Baked Brown Sugar and a bit to the left hand side. This is the card front. Next stamp the “Sending Wishes Your Way” sentiment in Marina Mist Ink to the right of the floral image. On a separate scrap of Whisper White, stamp the largest butterfly from the Pappillon Potpouri stamp set in Baked Brown Sugar and with the Elegant Butterfly Punch, punch it out. Fold the butterfly in half and affix the left wing to the front of the card.

On the second piece of Whisper White stamp the bird from the An Open Heart stamp set in Baked Brown Sugar.  When you stamp the bird, skew him a little as if he’s looking up. See photo for placement.

Next thing you need to do is cut out the bird’s body carefully with a exacto or craft knife.  Make sure you have a protective surface underneath and that the blade is sharp.  When the cutting is finished gently bend the bird up-right.

Next, stamp the floral image again in Baked Brown Sugar. Stamp it on a scrap of Whisper White. Fussy cut the image out with Paper Snips. Set Aside.

In Marina Mist, stamp a small butterfly from the Pappillon Potpourri set and cut it out. Set it aside.

THE BIG SHOT:

On another scrap of Whisper White stamp the “Happy Birthday” from the Butterfly Basics stamp set in Marina Mist. With the BIG Shot cut out with a Decorative Label Die  Sponge Marina Mist on the edges using a Sponge Dauber. Set Aside.

Using the Butterflies Thinlit and the BIG Shot, cut out a medium butterfly in Marina Mist cardstock.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER:

Adhere the front Whisper White front to the Marina Mist then affix the two layers on to the So Saffron card base. Take the second Whisper White piece with the bird and adhere it to the inside of the card.

Butterfly Basics 3-D pop Up Card Tab Detail

Take the stamped floral image and fold it just about halfway. Take the So Saffron tab and affix it to the back of the floral image with Multi-Purpose Glue. Take the bottom of the stem and with Multi-Purpose Glue, glue it to the Whisper White layer. Glue the other end of the tab to the inside  back of the card, so when the card is open, the flowers pop up straight.

Next take the die cut Marina Mist butterfly and glue it to the flower stem so it stands up straight when the card is open.

Now, take the small butterfly and adhere that some where on the Whisper White piece. I put it on the left hand corner.

One more thing to do and that’s to take the “Happy Birthday” label and adhere it to the So Saffron so it reads clearly when the card is open.

And, that’s how to make a pop-up birthday card! Have fun playing around with different designs and stamped images.

Thanks so much for stopping by and here’s to pop-up cards!

Hugs,

Siggy-2
