Celebrate Summer Watermelon Card

Watermelon Card Header 2

I know what you’re thinking, “Celebrate Summer?” Yes, summer may be over by calendar standards, but Mother Nature has a mind of her own and here in New York it’s still pretty HOT! I have to admit I began writing this blog post when I was on vacation with, “Beach Brain,” and apparently my keyboard for my IPad had the same disease.  It just didn’t want to work where we were. I can’t say I blame it!

I have to tell you-I had so much fun creating this card using the Stampin’ Up! Work Of Art stamp set  I couldn’t wait to share it with you. Because this stamp set is so versatile I find myself with lots and lots of  ideas for using it.

How I made this card:

I started with a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ card base of Strawberry Slush scored at 4-1/4″

The next layer was cut at 5-1/4″ x 4″ of Whisper White

Then a 5″ x 3-3/4″ layer of In-Colors Designer Series Paper was cut. I chose the Mossy Meadow pattern

And, for the top layer I cut a 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ layer of Whisper White.

On this layer I stamped the brush stroke from the Work of Art Stamp Set in Mossy Meadow on the bottom as the watermelon rind. Above that I stamped two more brush strokes in Strawberry Slush for the yummy watermelon. For an added background I stamped the heart image from the same stamp set in Strawberry Slush as well. I didn’t plan it this way. I smudged ink on the background from my hand and this worked as a cover-up for the smudge. This is one accident I think works well.

With the Bird Builder Punch I punched the leaf and cut each leaf to use for the watermelon seeds. For these I used Basic Black card stock.

For the “Celebrate Summer” greeting I used two different stamp sets with Basic Black Ink. The celebrate is from the Stampin’ Up! Good Greetings and Summer from the Day to Day set. I really like to combine stamp sets for card greetings to add a little visual interest.

I layered the card as shown wrapping a piece of Basic Black Taffeta Ribbon up the left hand side of the card.

I look forward to sharing more card and project ideas using this Work of Art Stamp Set.
