A handmade sympathy card is a very personal way to express your love and support to a loved one at a difficult time. You want to choose your card stock, colors and message with care. You need to make sure that your message says the right thing, as a sympathy card is sent to someone at a painful time in their life.
I hesitated in posting these cards, because these were made for a dear friend and her boys. Laurie lost her husband last Wednesday and I can’t tell you how very difficult these were to make. I’m posting Laurie’s today and another in a few days. I never know how much of my personal life to share with you. I know you primarily visit for project ideas and I’m 100% about sharing, and the way I see it is, I want you to know why my projects look the way that they do. My projects reflect whatever I’m going through during that particular time in my life. Last week was a trial, therefore, sadly, sympathy cards. I share them with you, because everyone at some point in their lives needs to send a sympathy card to a loved one going through what Laurie is facing. Have I said too much?
For Laurie’s card I cut a 10″ x 7″ piece of Wisteria Wonder Card Stock and scored it at 5″ to create a 5″ x 7″ card. (I have to tell you, while I do love this color, it’s very hard to photograph)
For the first Whisper White layer I cut a 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ and stamped the swirl motif from the Elements of Style Stamp Set in Wisteria Wonder Ink.
I cut a 4″ x 6″ piece of Wisteria Wonder for the third layer.
And for the top layer I cut a 3-3/4″ x 5-3/4″ of Whisper White and stamped the large flower image from the Elements of Style Stamp Set in Wisteria Wonder. I stamped the image more towards the top, because I knew I wanted my message to be in the bottom left hand corner.
I stamped the sympathy message also in Wisteria Wonder Ink on a 2-1/4″ x 1″ piece of Whisper White Card Stock. I wanted to keep this card monochromatic. This was achieved by using the same color. I adhered the sympathy message on to a 2-1/2″ x 1-1/4″ piece of Wisteria Wonder.
