My Mother Alice

May 20, 1929-August 29, 2013

May 20, 1929-August 29, 2013

My mother passed away yesterday and when I was going through some photographs I found this picture of her at one of my workshops. She loved to make cards and especially liked to color the stamped images in. Just wanted to share with you how important the creative process is at any age. My mother is missed, but I find comfort, peace and gratitude that she was my mother and such a big part of who I am today.  Hold on fast to those you love and have in your lives…

Wildflower Meadow: Black Magic Technique

Hi, Stampers!

Here’s a fun stamping technique called, “Black Magic.” This stamping technique uses Basic Black Card Stock, White Ink and Colored Pencils.

Black Magic Stamping Technique

To begin making this card you first need to fold a piece of Very Vanilla in half. With the folded edge of the card stock inside of the cutting edge of the scallop circle die from the Circles Collection Framelits, run it through your BIG Shot. This way you get a folded card and not two scalloped circles!

Using Pistachio Pudding Card Stock run it through the BIG Shot With the Scallop Circle Framelit again and. Adhere this piece onto the front of the Very Vanilla card base. And, now for the fun part ~ the Black Magic Technique!

The basic Black Magic Technique is as follows:

Stamp a solid image stamp in White Craft or StaZon Ink onto black card stock. Let dry.
Color over the white craft ink using color pencils.
Use a white gel pen to outline the image.(optional)

Detailed Directions:

Black Magic Stamping Technique

Step 1:  Ink up a solid image stamp in white craft ink  and stamp onto Basic Black Card Stock. For this card I used the Wildflower Meadow stamp set.  Make sure your stamp is inked up really well. Let the ink dry.  If you are in a rush, you can speed up the drying process with a heat tool.

Step 2:  Color over the white craft ink using your Colored Pencils.  You can let a little of the white ink show through.

Step 3:  Once you’re happy with the coloring, take your Basic Black colored card stock and line up the colored image with the next smallest circle from the Circles Framelits Collection and run it through the BIG Shot. Then adhere and center this circle to the Pistachio Pudding card front.

Step 4:  To finish off your card, place five Basic Pearls as shown in photo, placing the largest pearl in the middle and smaller pearls to either side.  Follow the curve of the card.

Step 5:  Out of Very Vanilla Grosgrain Ribbon, make the perfect bow and adhere it to the side of the card with a Glue Dot.

See you next time and remember, “There’s always time for art!”
